INTRODUCTION

Tourists and Ghanaians from the diaspora, have often complained bitterly about the poor healthcare services available to them when they visit Ghana. Though most of these complaints are unfounded and exaggerated, there was still an urgent need to highlight some of the best facilities available that are providing exceptional healthcare services to the populace.

The focus this year was on the top 10 facilities but we hope to expand our research in the coming years to include ALL HEALTHCARE FACILITIES and to expand this survey into a TOP 50 survey, which would hopefully include other facilities in the rest of the country.

The survey was self funded to prevent any undue influence from any third party/ agency.

This is our MAIDEN survey and we hope to make it an annual event.

AIM :

To encourage patronage of local healthcare services and to inspire excellence through Healthy competition.

CRITERIA USED

The facilities were compared suing an adaptation of 5 pillars under the USA health news/world news grading of health facilities ).

a) Reputation /Brand Identity – history of provision of quality services, high brand association, type of clientele, quality assurance protocols etc.

b) Structure /Equipment - provision of high end diagnostic equipment and services, purposefulness of infrastructure, freedom of movement, provision of non-clinical infrastructure, car park, eatery, VIP suites, theatres. CCTV

c) Process / STAFFING - use of Technology, adequate and appropriate staffing. Range of services, patients waiting time, avenue for booking clients, waiting areas, payment options,

d) Services, Outcomes / safety scores- mortality ,Morbidity rates, legal suites, in patient stay, bed turnover, staff insurance, referral systems, management of emergency cases, security.

CONCLUSION

All 10 facilities mentioned in this write provide high end services to the citizenry . All these facilities are located in Accra and this once again goes to emphasize the concentration of quality healthcare in the nations capital. There are lots of good facilities outside the nations capital but unfortunately, they did not make it to the Top 10 list.

The comparison is no to embarrass any entity but rather to highlight the subtle differences in healthcare services, the weakness and strength of each facilty with the hope that these weakness (Apparent or real ) will be looked at and improved.
